A local endemic from the Olt defile in the Meridional Carpathians and the adjacent northern portion of the Subcarpathians, very much related and totally disjunct from Gallium valantioides Bieb. which grows in the Caucasus. Indications from other areas from the western Carpathians (i.e. Cerna valley) should be checked, being very old and not covered by herbarium materials or recent reports. The species is frequent within its limited area, and though is not endangered.

Cozia Mountains, near Stanisoara Monastery, May 2005
